Unoptimized wellbeing is caused by what hinders sentient beings from having an adequate level of health and comfort, connection with others, entertainment, activities and effort, providing value, and feeling appreciated.
A fair enhancement of general wellbeing is prevented at its core by a combination of constraints. First, the legacy on which society is based has led to an unequal development between and among species. Second, the world has limited resources which are unevenly distributed. Finally, the complexity of the world makes communication and decision-making very difficult, making it hard to efficiently improve previous issues.
In combination with human development, these constraints lead to the following main high-level issues:
Problem 1: “Uncontrolled Human Expansion”. The uncontrolled expansion of human society directly corresponds to the destruction of wildlife, pollution of nature and scarcity of drinkable water. This process generates much degeneration, from dying wildlife to wars over resources. It also limits nature’s entertainment and relief to humans and other beings.
Problem 2: “Lack of respect amongst sentient beings”. Humanity has prioritized itself over others to survive, leading to the unfair use of the animals we see today. Owning sentient beings and using them as we wish is not fair and proper to enhance the overall well-being. This is often explained as providing safety in exchange for security is like being in prison, a state of confinement nobody likes to be in, including captive animals.
Problem 3: “Natural Unbalance”. Energy production was mastered and used in many aspects of our lives to ease human life. However, fossil fuels were discovered to be low-cost energy source for rapid development. It has since been found that increased carbon dioxide concentration is leading to increased temperature. This production is often cited as a cause or catalyst for global natural disasters such as increased water level, desertification, storms, and floods.
Problem 4: “Inherited Life Inhibitors”. Many processes were built and transmitted in the complex world to make lives easier, most notably an unfair economic system. Humans are more and more conscious of the negative impact of these on current and future living. Despite this abundance of knowledge, its complexity makes it hard to determine what needs to be done at each person’s scale. This leads to people being unfulfilled and limits their productivity, particularly toward their wellness and participation in creating a better world.
Problem 5: “Existential Issue”. Many people are having an existential issue not knowing what they are alive for, what their purpose in life is. This core issue creates deep unwellness, lowers down motivation and productivity to achieve valuable outcomes. This issue is likely the main root cause which prevents the timely solving of the aforementioned problems.
Then What? While increased awareness and agreement on the problems are helping decide that these issues should be solved, motivation can be further driven by having ideas of a plan of action. This is exposed in the next part: General Solutions
